Armenia, a country in the southwest of the Southern Caucasus. A country of a people with a long history of over 3,500 years. The people are considered the 'Jews of the Caucasus'. Indeed, there are many similarities between the Jewish people and the Armenian people: the Armenians went through difficult periods of persecution and genocide in 1915. They survived and recovered to establish an independent state for themselves on an area of about 10% of the territory of Greater Armenia from about 2,000 years ago. A people with a large, important and influential distribution in the world. On our trip we will be impressed by a variety of interesting natural areas: from the mountainous White Switzerland, through the plains of the southern part of the country to the large freshwater lake. We will encounter impressive landscapes and surprising, unique ancient sites: a Jewish cemetery from 700 years ago of a community that is still unclear where they came from and where they moved to. An ancient stone site from thousands of years ago that is a mystery as to what it was used for and who its founders were. The capital of the country, Yerevan is a special modern city that offers tourists a fun evening out. And we will not miss it. A very experiential and comprehensive trip is planned for you.

תל אביב - טביליסי - ירוואן (Yerevan)

1

We will take a morning flight to Tbilisi, the capital of Georgia. After landing and getting ready, we will set off towards Armenia. After about a two-hour drive, we will reach the border crossing. We will change buses and head straight towards Yerevan, the capital of Armenia. Our journey will pass through an impressive mountainous area. We will stop for a look at the copper mining city of Alaverdi. From there we will continue to Yerevan. The largest city in the country, its administrative, cultural and economic center. The city has about 1.1 million residents, about a third of the total population of Armenia. The city is rich in parks, museums, theaters, libraries, art galleries and concert halls. It is one of the oldest capital cities in the world, and its origins lie in a fortress called Erebuni, which was founded in 782 BC, at the western end of Mount Ararat.

We will arrive in the city in the afternoon. We will begin with a visit to the Victory Garden and "Mother Armenia", a complex dedicated to the Soviet victory over the Germans in World War II. There stands a huge statue of a woman representing the Armenian women who were left alone during the war when the men were drafted into the Red Army. From here we will have our first look at the city of Yerevan and Mount Harar, which stands opposite. From there we will continue to the Armenian "Yad Vashem" complex to commemorate the Armenian genocide by the Ottomans in 1884 and 1915. Among other things, we will learn about the connection with the Jewish Nili underground in Israel. We will continue on to the city's innards. We will visit the impressive and unique art complex, ending with a visit to the special building, the Cascade. A visit that will be remembered for many years by the richness of the stonework on its various balconies and the abundance of sculptures in the garden in front of it.

After getting ready at the hotel and having dinner, we will continue our visit to the city: we will walk from Freedom Square and the impressive Opera House, through the adjacent park and the modern pedestrian street to the impressive Republic Square, enjoying a combination of the new and the old. This is the prestigious avenue in Yerevan, with a variety of brand stores, cafes and restaurants, and an underground mall that crosses the pedestrian street. If we are lucky, we will enjoy the impressive singing fountain show in Republic Square. Dinner and overnight in Yerevan.

ירוואן - גרני (Garni) - גרארד (Geghard) - ירוואן

Today we will go to the village of Garni, visit the pagan temple of the sun from the first century AD, built by King Tiridates I. The building is the only surviving Greco-Roman temple in Armenia and the entire former Soviet Union. There is speculation that the building was not a temple but a tomb, from the pre-Christian period. We will drive to the Garni Canyon to enjoy the special view of the basalt canyon, which some call a "symphony of rocks". We will have lunch in the village of Garni, with a local family, and see how the traditional Armenian bread, "lavashi", is baked. After that, we will continue to visit the ancient Armenian monastery of Gerard (Spear), partly carved into the rock. The current monastery was built in the 12th century, after its predecessors caught fire and were destroyed by the Arabs in 923. The monastery preserves the spear with which the Roman legion stabbed Jesus on the cross, considered the most important religious site in Armenia. Declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. If we are lucky, we will be able to hear the monastery choir singing in the hall with wonderful acoustics. In the late afternoon we will return to Yerevan. If possible, we will visit the vegetable and fruit market and the nearby Anastas House. Dinner and overnight in Yerevan.
